The spot acrylonitrile price fell $20/mt during the week ending May 28, due to a declaration of force majeure on downstream products. US spot acrylonitrile at $1,400/mt FOB US Gulf, on the top of a pricing level heard at $1,380-$1,400/mt and taking into consideration Ineos Styrolution declaration of force majeure on three grades of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene production at its Altamira facility in Northeast Mexico. According to a letter from the company dated May 24, "an ongoing severe dry spell" in the area is responsible for this force majeure. A source confirmed that Mexico is experiencing an extreme drought, and that industrial zones have been closed. A second source, when asked about possible effects on the ACN market, said that "ACN demand will drop." The impact will likely be felt by others...
