Asia AA/VAM prices rise due to tight supply / Acetic Acid increases with higher domestic numbers / China's coal and gas-based VAM producers operating rates are low

The price of Asian acetic and vinyl acetate was largely unchanged or slightly higher than the previous week on Feb. 20 due to higher domestic Chinese prices. FOB China AA was up $5/mt from last week to $350/mt due to higher domestic prices. Sources said that the last time they heard of deals being concluded at this level, they were done so. Low production rates by coal and gas-based VAM producers in Asia have led to a shortage of cargoes on the domestic market. There was a high demand for ethylene-based VAM due to the high operating rates of ethylene-based producers. According to market sources, there are not many VAM cargoes available for export.
