Acetic acid & derivatives in South Asia: Prices fall amid lower offers and domestic prices / Low-cost arrivals press domestic prices / Spot buyers cautious amid domestic weakness

Despite mixed fundamentals, the Indian Acetic Acid market weakened in the week ending Jan. 23, AA. Ex-tank domestic prices at Kandla and Mumbai were lower by about Rupee 1-1.25/kg over the past week. Arrival of cargoes at lower prices, between $390 and $395/mt, led to profit booking. Ex-tank price lowered. The domestic market continued to sell, which increased the price pressure. Spot buying interest was also limited. Some market sources, however, saw the price drop temporarily and predicted that acetic acid would rise in February due to the tighter supply coming from China. The demand for downstream acetic anhydride and ethyl-acetate was stable or lower during the past week.
