Asian ABS: Prices rise on stronger upstream styrene monomer costs / China ABS operating rate increases to 61.37% / Styrene Monomer Price Rises $18/mt in a Week - Aug 16, 2024

The Asian acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia markers at $1,460/mt and at $1,480/mt, respectively, both up $15/mt on the week to Aug. 14. Market sources attributed the increase in offers to higher upstream prices. CFR China styrene and FOB Korea markers were $1,140/mt apiece and $1,125/mt apiece, respectively, on August 14. Both marks had increased by $18/mt since the previous week. Recent reports suggest that styrene monomer prices have risen due to higher crude oil and benzene upstream prices. Apart from SM the upstream Butadiene CFRChina market was down $10/mt over the week to $1,510/mt August 14, while the Acrylonitrile CFR Far East Asia mark was stable on the week, at $1.220/mt August 13.
