The Asian butadiene market experienced a slight drop in discussions on April 23. Some cited an anticipated increase in supply, as many scheduled turnarounds were due to conclude in Asia by June. The expected increase in supplies will undoubtedly impact bids and offers. However, overall supply of butadiene in Asia is unlikely to be large as most steam crackers that are fed by naphtha in Asia will run at reduced rates in order to maintain weak production margins," said a producer in Northeast Asia. Since Feb. 27, prices of olefins ethylene and naphtha have been falling, which has put pressure on cracker operators who use naphtha. This is contributing to the reduction in run rates.
