European methanol prices
declined on March 16, despite good availability. The FOB Rotterdam
5-to-30-day methanol spot price fell Eur2/mt on the day at Eur338/mt February
16, marking the third consecutive day of price drops. Sources claim that at least 3,000 mt were traded spot in the
Eur338-340/mt area. According to a seller,
the steady demand for all methanol downstream products -- such as formaldehyde
and biodiesel -- drove the price drop. Sources
say that inventory in Rotterdam was balanced to low, and flows to regional
storage terminals were healthy. The
increased demand for truck and rail car loading cargoes was due to the effort
to replace Russian methanol volumes in Eastern Europe before the imposition of
