On May 9, US Gulf Coast spot Methanol was 3
cents higher than the previous day amid concerns about US production. After the close of the May
8 market, another 10,000 barrels was traded. This was the first transaction since May 3 as the buying
interest in the market had dried up. A
source stated that the [spot] markets are driven by producers who need product
because of atypical events. Sources said
that Geismar 2 in Louisiana is currently idle. According to market participants, the 1.1 million mt/year
unit of methanol went down on 5 March. However, there was no explanation. Methanex has been active recently in buying US spot material
