India: R-PET bottle bale prices increase amid shortage of bales / Fundamentals stable, players waiting for minimum content mandates : sources / Recyclers worried about rising feedstock prices

On March 12, recycled polyethylene terephthalate flakes with PVC content less than 30 parts/million were down $10/mt from the previous week to $955/mt F.O.B. India, while R-PET pellets for food grade remained unchanged at $1,300/mt F.O.B. India during the same time period. Sources said that the fundamentals were unchanged and firm. They are anxiously awaiting the minimum content legislations. Another source, however, expressed concern about the rising domestic bale price, which if it continues to rise could make export prices of flakes less competitive. As India prepares to implement the Extended Producer Responsibilities and new production capacity comes online, a trader stated that increased demand for bottle-bales is driving up prices.
