Asia: PE trading muted amid Lunar New Year and Tet holidays / Market stable amid thin trading / Wanhua Petrochemical begins operations at its new LDPE Plant

In the week leading up to January 28, Asia's polyethylene market was stable, despite low trading volumes due to regional holidays in China and Southeast Asia. The Chinese market has been dominated by a bearish sentiment due to the additional supply from capacity expansions at home. The Lunar New Year also slowed down trading as buyers did not want to accumulate cargoes before the holidays. A trader stated that "there are too many domestic PE capacities and it's weighing on the buyers' sentiments." As reported previously, China's Wanhua Petrochemical began commercial operations on its new 250,000 mt/year LDPE plant in Yantai on Jan. 22.
