How these prices are quoted

Why is the producer price different from the port price?

Producer prices reflect domestic manufacturing cost and contract terms; port prices reflect the landed cost of imported cargoes. The two set a band that the market trades within.

How do domestic producer prices react to imports?

Import parity (CFR India plus duty and handling) is a ceiling. When landed imported material is cheaper, producers have little room to raise and often roll over or cut.
