- WTI, and RBOB rise on the day- Benzene supply remains tight

Despite increases in upstream energy
markets, spot benzene fell once again on Aug. 23. NYMEX October WTI rose
$3.38 to $93.74/b, while ICE October Brent climbed $3.74 to $100.22-120.50/b. NYMEX September RBOB rose 4.18 cents, to $2.9330-3.5000/gal. The
tighter-stocked NYMEX September ULSD rose 6.57 cents, to $3.8419/gal. Benzene was still in short supply on the prompt market despite
delayed import arrivals. Sources indicated
that approximately 100,000 mt would arrive from Asia in late August. This is a
delay to the earlier anticipated arrival of the first half to mid-August. According to a second source, 82,000 mt of the total volume
was sourced from South Korea. This
supported a forward-looking curve that was backwardated.
