Spot
prices for mono ethylene glycol in the US rose sharply during the week ending
Jan. 6. This was due to widespread outages and a shortage of spot
supply. A third producer was believed to have made volumeal locations, but
this could not confirm. This has led to a tightening of spot supply. Canadian
plants were reported to be operating at normal rates as they are built to
withstand colder temperatures than plants in subtropical Louisiana and
Texas. Sources say that there is not enough spot MEG to go around.
However, this weather-related problem will not be as severe as the February
2021 storm that crippled US chemical production for several months. Sources
say the outages aren't as severe and overall demand...
