Asia Weekly: Polycarbonate prices fall $5/mt on weaker upstream pricing / Acetone, Phenol Lower WOW / Demand is still sluggish

On May 7, Asian polycarbonate was down $5/mt from the previous week, at $1.485/mt CFR China, for general-purpose molding grade, and $1.495/mt CFR China, for extrusion grade, due to a lackluster market and abundant supply. The market was also dampened by lower upstream prices. A Northeast Asian producer stated May 7 that the China market was so quiet. They take a "wait-and-see" stance because of poor demand and excess supply. Due to falling feedstock benzene, Asian phenol and Acetone prices have fallen week-over-week. The CFR China phenol mark is down $15/mt ($805/mt) and the CFR China (acetone) mark is down $20/mt ($685/mt) as of May 6.
