China's high run rates for AA fuels local prices / Demand for thin AA and VAM in SE Asia / Scarce VAM supply on the local Chinese market

Trading activity on the Asian vinyl acetate and acetic acids markets was mixed on April 17. East China acetic acids prices dropped Yuan 25/mt from the previous weeks at Yuan 2,550-2660/mt on April 17, despite healthy operating rates by Chinese AA producers. The price of May-loading FOB China shipments remained relatively unchanged week to week at $330/mt. FOB China was $320/mt, unchanged from the previous week. CFR Southeast Asia methanol was $4/mt less than the previous period, amid bearish fundamentals. It reached $405/mt in April 17, despite the drop. Sources said that tight supply of carbide-based and ethylene VAM in the Chinese market supported domestic prices.
