Spot Market Activity muted, while producers "catchup"Styrene
prices rose in the week ending Jan. 6, after some producers experienced their operations
temporarily interrupted by the late December Gulf Coast deep freezer. This was
in response to rising European prices, sources stated. One producer stated
Jan. 3 that "we went down the night before the freeze" and added
"we were down for about nine days." Multiple sources confirmed
that spot buying, which replaced production losses, resulted in higher
prices. "We were informed about the buying of other
producers. The producer stated that although we didn't need to buy spot,
it was very close. "The downtime robbed us of any additional
