The price of styrene in the US Gulf continued to rise in the week ending March 28. Demand was high, as the material continued to be shipped to Europe. Sources said US Gulf Coast producers of styrene were working as hard as they could, but that at least one producer along the Lower Mississippi River was having some problems. For the first time in 2022, the benzene/styrene differential widened over the course of the week to exceed $400/mt. A source reported that multiple styrene transactions were done at $1080/mt during the week. The source said that the levels are not always indicative of value. The source added that "industry players were caught off guard when deals dropped below $1,100/mt".
