US phenol supply fills gaps in IndiaFeedstock benzene costs rise



Asian phenol prices extended
gains in the week to Feb. 8 on the back of tight supply, while demand remained
relatively stable. A US-origin parcel was heard to have sold to India on a CFR
basis in the week at $1,580/mt and other selling indications for US origin were
heard at $1,620/mt. Market participants said trading indications were above
$1,500/mt. Domestic prices for phenol in west coast India were heard to have
firmed in the week, with discussions heard in the range of Rupees 126-129/kg.
Some market sources said local production margins were under pressure as
feedstock benzene prices were high. As such, phenol imports were finding their
