US-LDPE: Rapid price erosion causes a drop in spot

June, ACC■ The domestic LDPE prices have fallen again
this week at 86-87c/lbThe export rail car levels of low-density
polyethylene (LDPE) softened on the week ending Aug. 3. This was despite a
market that has seen rapid price erosion and producers trying to move inventory
despite ongoing logistics problems. Spot export LDPE levels dropped $66 to
$1,334-$1,356/ mt (65.5-81.5 cents/lb on a FAS Houston basis Aug. 3), based on
rail car prices discussed at 55-56c/lb. In early August, rail car pricing
was discussed at a notional price of 50 cents/lb. This was because trader
sources claimed that distributors were trying to move resin inventories from
already full packaging warehouses. Spot export LDPE was also assessed at
$60.5/lb...
