The European naphtha and oil markets were
quiet as the US was closed for the July 4 holiday. One source stated that the
US market was "super quiet today", one source claimed. Due to the rise in crude oil, the August naphtha
swap was valued at $28.25-33.50/mt up to $825.50-860.25/mt. The
recovered crack rose 40 cents/b, but it remained in negative territory at minus
$16.95-23.50/b. This is a reflection of the current market weakness. Sources
said that despite recent improvements, sentiment in Asia's naphtha market
remains weak due to low downstream demand. The August
East-West spread, which is the premium of CFR Japan naphtha cargo Swap over the
CIF NWE equivalent, was $15.50-20.50/mt down 3.50/mt. September was $13.50-18.50/mt. CIF naphtha
