The European benzene market continued to
experience low demand conditions on Aug. 18. There was no recovery in the
second half of August due to holidays and sparse downstream activity. The benzene five- to
30-day forward delivery lay can be valued at $946-960/mt CIF ARA today, an
increase of 50 cents. There was a slight contango structure that remained
moving into September. As the holiday
season winds down, there are hopes that activity will pick up in September. As the cost of living in Europe continues to rise, some
