Asian butadiene was rated stable on Aug.
30, after a sharp rise in the previous session. Market sources said the
latest price increase in China was due to rising downstream rubber plant
operations -- especially styrene-butadiene-rubber -- as their margins were
expected to improve. The margin recovery
was short-lived, however, as one of SBR’s key feedstocks, styrene monomer (the
main feedstock for SBR), was currently in an uptrend. As there are talks about closing some of China's butadiene
plants, market sources also kept an eye on their operations. According to S&P Global Commodity Insights data,
ethylene prices in the Northeast Asia market started climbing as well. CFR
