styrene prices fell on May 11th, with market sentiment indicating that stocks
were improving by the end. After a trader indicated at $1950/mt-$1970/mt on April 10, a
trade was made at $1925-1955/mt to trade May-loading cargoes. The trade was made quickly at $2,195/mt-$2,198/mt. This is a
sign that buyers are still able to get material quickly and there is still a
premium. Stocks will rise when the Trinseo
Ludwigshafen and BASF Ludwigshafen plants reopen. As material continues to flow into Europe, China imports are
expected to support supplies. The market
did not react to the fall in styrene and benzene activity upstream. In the week ending May 6, energy increases provided some
