USCG Aromatics prices recover due to rising energy futures / Toluene, mixed xylenes and their prices are increasing by 13 cents/gal / Prices rise as US-China trade optimism grows / Optimistic outlook for summer driving season

The price of US Gulf Coast toluene nitration grade rose by 13 cents/gal for the week ended May 9. This marks a significant turnaround following a sustained period low pricing which had driven the prices to a low 20-weeks earlier. The price of mixed xylenes also increased by the same amount during the week. Commercial-grade toluene is 253.5 cents/gal FOB USG on May 9, an increase of 13 cents from the previous week. CGT was assessed at a 17.5% discount to nitration grade toluene in accordance with previous indications. US aromatics, despite the weaker demand reported in previous weeks, benefited from higher prices on energy futures.
