The Asian PET market was quiet during the
week ended Aug. 10. Most producers were sold out for August-loading orders. According to market
sources, activity in China's domestic markets was limited due to a continuing
conference. As crude oil prices fell,
sentiment was reflected in lower prices on domestic Chinese markets and FOB
China. Some market participants stated
that demand for PET chips in bottle form was expected to stay stable as China's
inventory was shorter than the usual 15-20 day. The demand for poor finished goods continued to push down
the prices of polyester yarn and other fiber grades, causing them to be less
