CIF NWE naphtha
cargo price rose 2.5% on Tuesday, supported by higher demand for
high-paraffinic naphtha, which is a popular specification with ethylene
producers. Sources said February 9. Sources suggested that the high prices seen in the physical
market in recent weeks could have been due to the typical premium for high-paraffinic
naphtha versus open-specification naphtha. CIF NWE cargo prices increased 15% month-on-month. The East-West spread, which is the premium for the CFR Japan
naphtha freight swap over the CIF NW equivalent, continued to fall, reaching an
eight-month high. Despite this, the Asian
naphtha compound saw gains, mainly due to tight supply and closed arbitrage.
