Asian
butadiene was flat at $50/mt- $70/mt higher on May 12, due to tight supplies in
South Korea, Japan, and China. China was also under pressure. Spot demand was
reported by trading sources in South Korea and Japan for the first half of June
delivery. This was to meet supply shortages due to lower butadiene plant
operation. Sources indicated that the
supply was less than initially predicted. Spot
demand for H1 June was driven by South Korea's steam cracker turnaround season. According to some market sources, Japan's downstream rubber
plant operations were affected by a shortage of butadiene feedstock. Due to a weaker domestic market, spot demand for CFR China
was low. The domestic China butadiene
market price increased by Yuan 200/mt...
