While the European methanol spot markets
remained relatively unchanged on July 28, talk about supply constraints
continued. The
FOB Rotterdam five to 30-day spot price for methanol was Eur385-390/mt on July
28, a stable day despite thin spot liquidity. July 28 saw no new spot deals, with the last deal for 1,000
mt second half August-H1 September delivery at Eur385-390/mt done after market
close. A seller stated that the German
market was experiencing logistical challenges due to low Rhine river water
levels, which allowed for 50% barge loading. This meant more demand for trucks
or railcars and increased product costs overall. The seller stated that the US's lower output is another
reason for high European prices....
