- Styrene September pricing falls due to weak demand- Uncertainty regarding
September Demand Recovery

Thin liquidity continued in the European
benzene/styrene markets on August 16, with limited trading activity from market
sources but not many open bids and offers. September trading was slow in the styrene
markets as market conversations suggested an uncertain future. The five to
thirty-day forward loading lay can be valued at $1,203.75-1,240.50/mt FOB AR,
down $9.50-10.50/mt over the previous day. Sources said
that downstream demand for styrene would be weak throughout the month. Further
falls in spot prices of styrene from August will disrupt demand in the
polystyrene industry. Although demand was expected to rebound in
September, there were concerns across the polymer markets as producers
attempted to balance the impact of higher energy prices and high inflation
rates.
