Styrene production spread under pressure | Styrene monomer run rate could rise in Asia

- Styrene production spread under pressure- Styrene monomer run rate could rise in Asia

European benzene prices remained steady
during the Dec. 5 session, despite weak demand from downstream production
capacity reductions and seasonal slowdowns in December. The forward delivery
laycan of five to 30 days was $726-745/mt CIF-ARA. This is unchanged from Dec.
2. Over the weekend, the spread between
benzene prices and styrene prices narrowed slightly. A contango structure for
Styrene was in effect between December and January. This spread is due to weak demand in Europe, which has seen
higher production costs and higher natural gas prices in 2022. Sources claim that China's stockpiles of sterile have
decreased partly due to Middle East demand. Some market participants expect higher run rates by 2023,
according to sources.
