Asian Styrene monomer: Prices rising on concern about upstream ethane supplies SM Prices Supported by Concerns about Ethane Supply SM Futures Up Yuan 72/mt DoD

The styrene Monomer CFR China and FOB Korean markers were $918/mt & $908/mt on June 25 respectively, both $8/mt higher than the previous assessment. This is in line with the growth of the China domestic market. The August EB2508 styrene-monomer front-month futures contract, listed at the Dalian Commodities Exchange on June 25, was Yuan 7298/mt. This is up Yuan 72/mt from the previous day at the close of afternoon trading at 3pm Beijing time. A buyer in China stated that front-month premiums had risen significantly due to short covering. A source on the Chinese market noted that, "The US has not released export permits for ethane into China so expectations of a tightening in ethane supplies have also boosted SM price."
