The CFR China and FOB Korean markers for styrene were $867/mt & $857/mt respectively on May 2. Both are down $4/mt compared to the previous assessment. This is due to the rollover of laycans, and a quiet market in China as participants were away on holidays. The market activity was slow because many people in Northeast Asia were on holiday for May Day and Golden Week. According to sources, the market in Southeast Asia was also quiet, with little discussion about spot prices. The outlook for SM does not look good as the economy has been bad. Due to macroeconomic uncertainties, customers are reluctant to purchase. It's difficult to project or predict what the future will bring. But SM is still highly dependent on benzene upstream.
