Asian styrene monmer markets plunged along
with other downstream markets that were $30/mt lower than the day's average of
$965/mt CFR China or $960/mt FOB Korea Nov. 21. One source stated that markets are declining due
to low downstream demand and limited buying activity. Another
source claimed that the benzene- and styrene stockpile accumulation was quite
high. The source said that stockpiles of benzene are
up to 29,000 tons. However, the stockpile for styrene monomer is around 10,000
tons. Another source said that the reason for the
overall price weakness observed Nov. 21 was poor downstream support. Markets
remained quiet in the upstream parallel markets. Spot
ethylene prices remained stable at $880-900/mt CFR North Asia. However,
