Asian Styrene: Drops by $15/mt due to slow demand / Weak front-month demand results in a narrower inter-month spread / Expect lower SM operations rates in Southeast Asia

Asian spot styrene monomer price were down $15/mt today at $1,082/mt to mark CFR China. The China domestic price was lower by Yuan 170/mt to Yuan 8,025/mt prompt marker on December 17. On Dec. 17, China's domestic market saw a decline in futures and physical prices. On the Dalian Commodity Exchange, active traded February 2022 Styrene futures were down by Yuan114/mt or 1.4% to settle on December 17. Yuan 8,027/mt. Spot discussions in the physical market fell to Yuan 8,020-8.040/mt for prompt delivery, and Yuan 8000-8,020/mt H2 December delivery. Sources indicated that the physical premium to the future price was lower due to slower overall downstream demand. Due to lower front-month prices, H2 December had a narrower inter-month spread than H1 January. Trade participants kept an eye on a possible new plant startup in China next...
