Dec. 7, 2016, saw a decline in European
benzene prices due to lower crude oil prices and weak spot market demand. The forward delivery
laycan for five to thirty days was estimated at 701.25/mt CIF-ARA Dec. 7, a $19-23/mt
decrease on the previous day. The buy and
sell interest was broad, with bids at $650-670/mt from December to January. The ICE Brent crude front-month swap fell $1.71 to $78.60/b
by 4:30 PM London time. The sellers cited
a contango between pricing through offers from December and January, which
mirrors the downstream styrene markets structure. Sources say that styrene activity was weak with a spread of
$100-120/mt between sell and buy expectations. The demand remains low, with a few brief bursts of buying to
