Spot drops to an 11-month low / Sources predict a lower January contract settlement

The US Gulf Coast spot-methanol front and forward month's market structure increased to a 2-cent contango December 16. December spot methanol dropped 1 cent to 106c/gal FOB USG. This was an 11-month low following a bid/offer of 104-107c/gal FOB ITC. Spot methanol was at its lowest point on January 14, 2020 when it was at 102c/gal FOB USG. Forward-month January spot Methanol was steady at 108c/gal FOB USAG day to day, expanding the market structure from a 1-cent contango into a 2-cent contango. January spot methanol traded twice at 108c/gal FOB ITC. According to one source, there is little to no bid interest in US plants and they are all up and running. Sources speculated that the January settlement for contract settlement would be lower than the December. The spot prices are currently 18cs lower than the...
