Spot US export caustic soda prices were
flat at $795-$805/dmt FOB USG on the week of Jul 19, based on stable pricing
indicators and limited market activity. According to market sources, caustic soda demand
remains strong and availability is tight. This prompted sellers to focus more
on contract customers rather than spot deals. A source
stated that the market has been quiet. Olin's April
20 force majeure on Chlor-alkali and ethylene dichloride, as well as Westlake's
June 15 force majeure on chlor-alkali, remained in force July 19. Westlake was
expected complete a complex-wide turnaround of its Plaquemine, Louisiana
complex by the week end 18. Complex includes a chloralkali unit
which can produce up to 426.376 mt/year chlorine and 453,592 mg/year caustic
