In the week ending May 21, Asian polypropylene market conditions were varied. China prices rose due to increased discussion levels as sellers successfully negotiated higher local cargo deals. Southeast Asia was sluggish because of a seasonal slowdown in Malaysia and Indonesia before Hari Raya Haji. Buyers stated that they were not in a hurry to purchase, despite the tariff pause, because of trade uncertainty following 90 days. Some converters stated that they had not received any further orders for finished plastic products after early July. They therefore adopted a wait and see approach in regards to buying raw resin. Exports were reported at $875 to $880/mt FOB China. Local cargoes being cheaper than imported goods, traders claim that the contracted imports are re-exported from China to make spot profits.
