According to market sources, spot trading
in Asia naphtha was observed on the third day of the new trading cycle. This
was due to the run rate reductions by naphtha-fed steam crackeders. The paper market also showed
a slight decline in sentiment, with brokers estimating the January-February
Mean Japanese naphtha swap spread time down by 50c/mt, compared to the Dec. 2
close of $6-7/mt. A trader said that the
demand side of petrochemicals is getting worse. He suggested that there might
be some policy changes in China to stimulate petrochemical consumption. The key CFR Northeast Asia Ethylene and C+F Japan Naphtha
spreads -- closely monitored by olefin manufacturers -- have been below the
$250-270/mt breakeven level...
