- Some South Korean producers raise cracker operation
rates- Ethylene naphtha spread is still negative

On June 16, there was limited trading in
the Asian ethylene markets, as buyers' sentiment remained low. The offer of $1,020/mt CFR
Northeast Asia was received and bids were heard at $950 to$970. The idea of floating July cargoes was not popular as buyers
pointed to downstream uncertainty. Some
producers in South Korea raised operating rates at crackers to secure
deliveries of downstream products, especially polymers, after receiving orders. Current operating rates are estimated at 75%-90%. This is up
from 70%-80% on June 15. The benchmark C+F
Japan naphtha marker has been valued at $7. 62/mt at $798. 75/mt at
June 16 Asian close. $211 was the
ethylene-naphtha spread. 25/mt, which is
below the average spread of $300-$350/mt.
