Asian Solvent X: August supply is tight■ High demand causes
prices to rise■ Southeast Asia Market seeks firm offersAsian solvent-MX was valued at $16-21/mt,
or $911-925/mt FOB Korea on Aug. 5, despite the weaker crude oil markets and
isomer mixed xylenes markets. Sources
claimed that spot cargoes were hard to find in Asia due to the tight supply of
solvent MX. Traders believed that Asian
cracker margins, including those in South Korea, were low and had resulted in a
decrease in Asian cracker operations. There was therefore a low supply of cargo
from many countries including Taiwan and South Korea. Others traders stated that although cargo supply was
difficult to find, India's demand was not high and the end-users weren't
willing to pay high prices. Many trading
sources with term contract obligations were looking for spot deals...
