Sources said that the European naphtha
market is still weak due to low blending demand and subdued buying interest in
petrochemicals. However, supply was not expected to last long. One source stated that
there was less supply in the short term because they had recently exported
more. "Demand for petrochemical is
still very low, but at least in Europe and Asia it may be peaking." Sources say that the weak gasoline market and falling spread
between naphtha and it continued to slow down blending demand in Northwest
Europe. Sources also stated that the
gasoline market was experiencing steep backwardation which made it difficult to
store gasoline, which in turn affected blending demand. One source stated that blending was expensive because blend
[naphtha] grades trade at around $60-65/mt...
