Asian Polystyrene Prices remained under pressure, with
the prices of expandable polystyrene falling by $55/mt to $1195/mt Nov. 2, for
the general-purpose grade. Producers
said that end-users had large inventories that could last them until the end of
the year and were unwilling to buy, even though current prices are lower than
in the first three quarters. Market
sources indicated that polystyrene producers had in some cases higher-priced
inventories of styrene monmer. This made it difficult to lower PS prices. Producers said that the price of fire retardant material for
fire fighter grade EPS was still high, which led to a $150-$170/mt price gap
between general-purpose and fire-retardant grades. CFR China's price dropped $37-$43/mt in the upstream SM
sector to $923-$943/mt CFR China by Nov. 2. Producers...
