On June 30, the European methanol market saw
a price adjustment due to the third quarter's drop in European methanol
contract prices. This was in contrast to the second quarter. FOB Rotterdam's five-to-30-day spot price for
methanol was Eur363-380/mt on June 30, down Eur7-8/mt the day before due to
slow spot buying interest. Sources say that at least 2,000 mt
were traded in the spot market for July deliveries. Prices declined throughout
the day to Eur365-3633/mt. The European methanol contract price
for Q3 has settled at Eur520-540/mt. This is down Eur30-34/mt compared to the
Eur550-560/mt settlement for Q2. A consumer said that while Methanol
demand for downstream uses remained stable at high levels, there was a large
supply and it was difficult...
