After a sharp rise in prices during the
week ending June 17, European benzene markets saw little activity on June 21,
with little activity for European buyers. Strong gasoline demand drove higher prices, thereby shifting
benzene feedstocks away from petrochemical products to the gasoline blending
pool. A trader stated that gasoline demand
had dropped slightly, which could indicate that benzene prices may have reached
a limit. There was little to no supply of
the material, which remained rare in the market. The downstream styrene demand remained low, which kept
prices close to those of feedstock benzene. Low demand is partly due to summer holidays, which disrupt
