Low spot volume buying interest meant that
the European butadiene market was quiet during the week to Dec. 2. The FOB Rotterdam
butadiene prices at $500-520/mt Dec. 2 remained unchanged over the week, and
were at a 27 month low. Due to low
downstream demand, domestic trading activity was muted. Consumption across all major derivatives has declined in
recent months, with some producers of styrene-butadiene rubber and
acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene cutting operating rates to 60% and 50%,
respectively. According to a source,
Butachimie, a major butadiene buyer, is closing its Chalampe, France,
adiponitrile facility due to low demand and high production costs. Sources say there is little interest in export cargoes to
