Market sources reported that there were not
many firm discussions in Asian ethylene markets on Nov. 7, as there was a large
gap between selling and buying indications. Although some traders noticed an increase in
inquires for December delivery, they were limited on ship availability and had
to make offers. According to market participants, selling ideas
were not affected by the drop in shipping costs. The week
ended unchanged in buying indications. Many end-users blamed lower operating
rates for derivative facilities and reduced margins on downstream production
for the decline in buying signals. The benchmark C+F Japan Naphtha
marker was up $5.50/mt to $699.50/mt as of the Nov. 7 Asian close. The spread
for ethylene-naphtha was calculated at $180.50-$195.78/mt. This...
