Sources said that the European naphtha
market changed to contango on Dec. 2, in anticipation of new sanctions against
Russia oil coming into effect in the following days. The December/January CIF
naphtha Swap Spread was at minus $1.50-2.75/mt. This was $3/mt less than the
January/February spread. This was the
lowest spread between front and balance-of-month since Sept. 22nd. Given that spreads continued to be positive, the driver of
the shift into contango at prompt was the general feeling that the market was oversupplied
and that the EU sanctions against Russian crude oil and products will have an
effect on supply, sources claim. "Sanctions
