The availability of limited supplies meant
that discussions in the Asian Ethylene market were sluggish on July 26. According to market sources, September buying
and selling indicators were higher than August due to increased cracker
operating rates. However, the increase was limited by weak derivative demand. Many
naphtha-fed steam crackers in Asia have seen their operating rates drop amid
lower run rates at various derivative plants like polyethylene, styrene monomer, and ethylene glycol. This is due to high naphtha prices and weak olefins, as
well as pressure from high costs and low olefins. Market
sources say that these run rate reductions will continue into August and
