Midweek saw the US MTBE market remain
muted. The gasoline futures market made a U-turn to higher prices, temporarily
putting participants off the edge while they wait for more information. The increase in oil prices
seemed to have influenced a large part of the gasoline market's strength. NYMEX September RBOB closed at 307.03 Cents/gal. This is an
11.01 cents/gal increase day-over-day. October
RBOB settled for 279.45 cents/gal. This resulted in a wider backwardation,
27.58 cents. The premiums were steady at
46.93c/gal compared to September RBOB gasoline. During the day, there were no trades, offers, or bids. A source said that Mexico's demand for MTBE was still
active, despite the fact that local participants have increased the competition
for traders who want to import...
