Asian ethylene prices dropped on July 1,
despite low demand and plenty of supply. Sellers continue to feel the pressure
from H2 July excess cargoes and low buying indicators. Many buyers stated that
they weren't in a hurry to purchase additional material because inventory space
was limited and derivative margins were low. Mono ethylene glycol production margin was calculated at
minus 139/mt on July 1, an improvement from minus 162/mt on June 24. SM was
calculated as minus 114.93/mt against minus 135.40/mt on June 24, and HDPE film
at $10-15/mt up from minus 40/mt on June 24. The operating rates for Asia for ethylene are expected to
